About

Samantha was born in Oldham, Manchester and classically trained on the clarinet from the age of 10. In 2012 she studied at the Junior Royal Northern College of Music, and won many awards for her classical clarinet playing, including the Future Talent gold award from the Duchess of Kent, the Gerald Pritchett memorial award and the professor Ian Tracey award for musicianship.
The next year Samantha successfully auditioned for Birmingham conservatoire's jazz programme. During her time there she was lucky enough to study with some of the most well-respected musicians in the country, including Andy Panayi and Mike Williams. In her final year, she was involved in various projects, including her Double Clarinet Quintet, Sticks and Stones: clarinet duo with Alicia Gardner-Trejo, the Conservatoire's Jazz Orchestra and the Ellington Orchestra. Upon graduating, she was the recipient of the THSH graduation prize for leadership and excellence.
In 2017, Samantha was accepted on the Dr Langner Jazz Master's course at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater specialising in jazz clarinet performance and research. Thanks to the incredible opportunities that this special programme offers, she has received tuition and mentorship from some of the best musicians in the world including jazz clarinet legend, Rolf Kühn and leader of NDR Big Band, Fiete Felsch.

During her time in Hamburg she has been performing regularly around the city with her quartet, and deeply researching the historic timeline of the clarinet in jazz through first-hand transcriptions and analysis. This has given Samantha's playing depth in musical maturity and a rich understanding of her instrument, from the roots of jazz to the contemporary.
In October 2018 she was chosen by the Jazz Promotion Network UK to make a tour of England with her Double Clarinet Quintet, which included concerts at Jazz at the Lescar, Symphony Hall and the Marine Theater in Lyme Regis.
